WOMEN'S HEALTH

Uterine Fibroids

Uterine leiomyomas, commonly known as fibroids, are non-cancerous tumors arising from the smooth muscle layer of the uterus. Fibroids are relatively common, causing symptons in 25% of women of reproductive age but are actually present in over 70% of women in this age group. Symptoms associated with fibroids include sensation of fullness or pressure in the lower abdomen, pelvic cramping or pain with periods, abdominal fullness, increase in urinary frequency, heavy menstrual bleeding, and sudden and severe pain.
