BIRTH DEFECTS
duodenal atresia
Duodenal Atresia
Duodenal atresia is a defect in which the duodenum, the first part of the small intestine, has not developed correctly. Part of the duodenum is sealed shut and food and liquids cannot pass. This condition is often associated with other congenital defects. Surgical intervention is required to correct the duodenal blockage and allow the baby to digest food normally.
