BIRTH DEFECTS

Bladder Exstrophy

Bladder exstrophy is an uncommon birth defect in which the bladder and abdominal wall fail to develop correctly in utero. Affected babies are born with the bladder inside-out and exposed through the abdominal wall. Surgery is necessary to correct this defect. It is more common in boys than girls and usually the genitals are affected as well.
